When I came to the current Perry Hall branch in December 2006, the New Perry Hall Workgroup had done all their planning work, and everyone was simply waiting for approval on the building site. Once the site was okayed in mid-2007, the workgroup met with County officials and the architect to review 50% drawings, discuss carpet choices & colors, and discuss requirements for various LEED "green" credits.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design. "LEED is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings."

Different design aspects earn points toward a certain level of "greenness". The new Perry Hall library will be LEED certified at the silver level. There are four levels: certified, silver, gold, and platinum.
